How To Get Started In Self Publishing

Self Publishing
There are many people that enjoy writing but do not necessarily have the means to be able to have their writings published.  It may also be that they don't have the proper connections in order to have these things published as well.  This is truly a shame and a loss in a lot of ways because many very talented people go unrecognized simply because they are unable to get the word out about their particular talent.  One way around this is through a method known as self publishing, and if done properly it can work quite well.

Most people who are recognized as writers will go through one of the third-party publishers that are established throughout the world.  These publishers have the necessary contacts to be able to get your work put together and promoted.  Self publishing your book may take a little bit more work than going through one of these publishers but it is something that has been done ever since publishing of these books was started.  In fact, there are some examples of people who did self publishing for their writing and ended up becoming quite popular.

The business end of self publishing is actually just a matter of doing everything that the publisher would do for you.  Typically, a third-party publisher would take care of these responsibilities but in their absence you would have to take care of them yourself.  These responsibilities would include editorial changes in the content, working with a printer, marketing and distributing the work directly to the consumer or through getting your work included with the retailers.  It might even be that the self publisher will take care of the printing themselves in order to be more economical.

Another way in which self publishing can work with the printer is to have the books printed on demand.  This is where the book is kept with the printing agency but it is only printed in small amounts whenever the need arises.  This is a great way for somebody just starting out to be able to keep up with supply and demand.  As their small supply runs out, they can simply have a few more printed and can continue on with their business.

Just because a book is self published does not mean that it is going to be an inferior work.  Because of the personal computer and some new software programs, many of which are free, professional results can be achieved with ease by those who are self publishing.  This gives them a great advantage as they will be able to save a lot of money on publishing cost.

As long as a person has something to say, self publishing will continue to be a way that they may say it.  Not everybody is in a position to go with a publisher and therefore they will continue to take care of it themselves and some will do well at it.  Although it may take some persistence on your part, it will be well worth it in the end, especially if you achieve the following that you desire.

Cheap Self Publishing - Confessions From a Profitable Cheapskate Author

By Daniel Hall
In years past my thrifty nature made it difficult to self-publish works that I couldn't quite pry-open my wallet to finance. (Besides too many moths escaped any time I opened the vault.) The problems were myriad. There were design expenses; editing expenses; fees for artwork and let's not forget forking over major greenbacks to print a minimum of a 1000 books. And unfortunately for most authors this simply meant having a garage full of books.
